抄録: In October 2014，Nara Medical University Library introduced a new library system of a "self-checkout machine", allowing users to borrow and return books and journals without requiring the assistance of library staff. This study examined the usefulness of this machine to library users after their introduction. To measure user onvenience, data was collected from the library system log for the period between April and September in 2014 and 2015 (before and after the introduction). The research was done using the following method. Tne first step was to examine the change in the number of library materials borrowed during the targeted periods in 2014 and 2015. The second step was to compare the number of items borrowed during opening hours when library staff were present and during opening hours when library staff were not present. Next, the number of items borrowed per user group was calculated. And the third step was to examine the trends in the use of the self-checkout machine. Compared to the targeted period in 2014, the number of borrowed items increased by 39.8% during the targeted period in 2015. The number of items borrowed per user group also increased after the introduction of the self-checkout machine. The results showed that library users frequently used the self-checkout machine during opening hours when library staff were not present. The self-checkout machine was thought to help library users study and to contribute to the improvement of our library services.

抄録: For busy physicians，the need to obtain highquality，evidence-based information rapidly is increasing as the importance of evidence-based medicine(EBM) becomes more widely accepted. Various information sources(point of care information tools) have been provided to respond to this need. Some reports have attempted to evaluate these tools. As these reports, the frequency of updates was highest for DynaMed and UpToDate had the largest number of topics. We set 3 clinical questions and compared the results of searches using 3 representative international point-of-care information tools (UpToDate, DynaMed, ACP PIER) and 1 Japanese tool (Konnichi-no Rinsho-Support). The survey showed that 3 international tools provided almost the same core references in their contents. The frequency of updates was not much difference between UpToDate and DynaMed. UpToDate provided recommendations based on not only references but also the opinions of experts. It could be said that UpToDate was the best tool, while it had some difficulties such as the length of sentences and high price. Although topic cover rate was less than UpToDate, DynaMed reached the level of practical use. The structure of ACP PIER is similar to DynaMed. Konnichi-no-Rinsho-Support is expected to be further developed as a point-of-care information tool for ]apanese researchers.</description>

抄録: At the Nara Medical University Library，we started using Twitter in June 2012 to provide timely information regarding PC use to enable efficient use of the library. Before starting Twitter, we investigated Twitter use at other university libraries and found that 75 university libraries used Twitter. We decided to tweet 3 times a day and to provide information regarding opening hours, events, and book reviews, similar to the usage at other university libraries. A year has passed since we started to use Twitter, but we have only 22 followers. Information activities should be reconsidered so that Twitter may become helpful to library users.
