抄録: Adrenodoxin has been reported to be heterogenously distributed among the mitochondria within a single parenchymal cell of the adrenal cortex by a pre-embedding&#xD;
immunocytochemical method with horseradish peroxidase-labeled Fab' antibodies. Using various immunoelectron microscopic techniques, I re-examined the distribution of adrenodoxin among the mitochondria in the parenchymal cells of bovine adrenal cortex. By post-embedding immunocytochemistry in combination with the protein A-gold technique, gold particles were seen on all the mitochondria examined in the parenchymal cells. By non-embedding immunocytochemistry (immuno-cryoultramicrotomy) in combination with the protein A-gold technique or a peroxidase-labeled streptavidin-biotin method, all of the mitochondria examined in the parenchymal cells were labeled with gold particles or 3, 3'-diaminobenzidine reaction products. By pre-embedding immunocytochemistry examining transverse ultrathin sections prepared from cryostat sections, the mitochondria in contact with the surface of the cryostat sections were stained at a higher percentage than the mitochondria within the cryostat sections. These results suggest that adrenodoxin is distributed homogeneously among the mitochondria within a parenchymal cell and that mitochondrial heterogeneity is caused by uneven antibody penetration into mitochondria in the pre-embedding method. Within the mitochondria in the parenchymal cells, adrenodoxin was stained on the matrix and inner mitochondrial membrane. Adrenodoxin was also stained on the round and electron-dense intramitochondrial bodies, which were often observed in the mitochondria of parenchymal cells in the zona glomerulosa and in the outer layer of the zona fasciculata. By quantitative immunoelectron microscopy, the density of&#xD;
gold particles on mitochondria in the parenchymal cells of the zona glomerulosa was two to three fold lower than that of the zona fasciculata, while that of the zona reticularis was similar to that of the zona fasciculata. The merits and demerits of pre-, post-, and non-embedding immunocytochemistry are discussed.</description>

抄録: The hemodynamic responses to isometric handgrip (IHG) exercise were studied in 33 patients with chronic renal failure in comparison with 15 normal subjects (Group N). The patients were classified by serum creatinine (Scr) level : Group F₁ ; 18 cases with Scr 2.0-4.9 mg/dl, Group F₂ ; 15 cases with Scr 5.0 mg/dl and more. Studies were conducted at rest and immediately, 1 and 5 minutes after IHG exercise at 50% of maximum voluntary contraction for one minute, and consisted of simultaneous recording of mechanocardiogram and echocardiogram. The relations between clinical data and hemodynamic indices in 33 patients with chronic renal failure were analyzed. (1) At rest, stroke index (SI) was increased and left ventricular ejection fraction (EF) and mean velocity of circumferential fiber shortening (mVcf) tended to increase in Group F₁ as compared with Group N. While in Group F₂, corrected pre-ejction period (PEPc) increased and ET/PEP decreased as compared with Group N ; besides, EF and mVcf tended to decrease as compared with Group F₁. These findings suggest that myocardial contractility decreases with aggravation of renal failure.&#xD;
(2) Hemodynamic indices in 33 patients with chronic renal failure were closely related to mean blood pressure (MBP) and Scr. (3) IHG exercise resulted in a significant rise in heart rate, MBP, cardiac index, EF, mVcf and ET/PEP and a significant shortening of PEPc in Group F₁ and F₂, which showed left ventricular reserve. In Group F₂, IHG exercise resulted in an insignificant rise in SI and changes in PEPc and ET/PEP were less than in Group F₁. Thus, augmentation of myocardial contractility induced by IHG exercise tends to decrease with aggravation of renal failure.</description>

抄録: Recently much attention has been paid to neuropeptides, especially somatostatin (SRIF) and TRH, as endogenous epileptic inhibitors and promotors. In order to examine the relationship between the development of epilepsy and neuropeptides, and to know if neuropeptides in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) can be an index of its concentration in the brain, we examined the change of immunoreactive SRIF (IR-SRIF) and TRH in CSF and brain at each stage of progression in cat amygdaloid kindling model.&#xD;
SRIF is thought to be an endogenous epileptic promotor, and to be involved in the&#xD;
development of epilepsy or the initiation of seizures. Our results suggest that the change in endogenous SRIF may be involved in the development of epilepsy, especially during later stages, in amygdaloid kindled cats. On the other hand, TRH is thought to be an endogenous epileptic inhibitor and TRH is actually used as an antiepileptic drug. Our results suggest that TRH may be involved in the initiation of seizures. Clinically neuropeptides of various central nervous system disorders in CSF are being studied, but whether neuropeptides in CSF can be an index of its concentration in the brain is yet unknown. Our results suggest that IR-SRIF in CSF can be considered as such an index, but TRH can not in amygdaloid kindled cat.</description>

抄録: Since the introduction of H2-receptor antagonists, the incidence of ulcer surgery has decreased markedly. Based on the number of patients who underwent ulcer surgery and upper gastrointestinal endoscopy in our hospital, the number of operations for peptic ulcer disease has decreased, although the number of peptic ulcer patients diagnosed&#xD;
by endoscopy has increased after the introduction of cimetidine (the first H2-receptor antagonist in Japan). The decreasing rate of surgical therapy before and after the administration of H2-receptor antagonists was 49.1%. The number of emergency operations has also decreased among ulcer patients diagnosed by endoscopy although the number of perforated and bleeding ulcer patients has increased. It is also reported that the most common operative procedure for both gastric and duodenal ulcer was distal gastrectomy reconstructed by gastroduodenostomy (Billroth Ⅰ).</description>
