抄録: A case of Crouzon disease complicated with congenital corneal opacity and severe dyspnea due to upper airway stenosis is reported. A male infant with a birth weight of 2.960 g and a gestational age of 38 weeks and 6 days, was admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) due to odd facial features and recurrent severe cyanosis. He exhibited a bulging forehead, exophthalmos and corneal opacity, however, there was no syndactyly. X-ray films of the skull demonstrated early synostosis in all sutures and digital impressions, and he was diagnosed with Crouzon disease. The case was complicated by incomplete dislocations of both elbow joints, synostosis between the third and forth cervical vertebrae and atrial septal defect. We began intermittent mandatory ventilation soon after admission because severe cyanosis with bradycardia recurred. Computed tomography and X-ray films revealed severe stenosis in the oropharyngolaryngeal cavity, and tracheotomy was performed at 44 days old. Craniectomy, keratoplasty and ventriculo-peritoneal shunt surgery were performed at 64 days, 136 days. and 318 days, respectively. He left NICU at 318 days. However, respitatory infection reccurred frequently and he died due to bronchopneumonia at 387 days. Our case seems to be a very rare and severe case of Crouzon disease.

抄録: Age-adjusted death rates of gastric cancer in Nara Prefecture were the highest in Japan until the 1960's, but they have fallen rapidly during the period 1965-1990. We analyzed demographically the contribution of the decline of the age-adjusted death rates of gastric cancer in Nara Prefecture. In males, the age-adjusted death rates in Nara Prefecture decreased more than did the national rates. In females, the age-adjusted death rates in Nara Prefecture and Japan fell
almost equally. In males, the death rates in the older age groups decreased more than in the younger age groups. The decline of the death rates in the older age groups contributes to the decline of the age-adjusted death rates of gastric cancer in Nara Prefecture. The age-specific mortality ratio (Nara/Japan) correlates with the net migration rate. We suggest that migration affected the decline of the age-adjusted death rates gastric cancer in Nara Prefecture.

抄録: The synaptonemal complexes (SCs), the unique organelle of the meiotic prophase nucleus, play important roles in the meiosis-specific events of homologous chromosome pairing, genetic recombination, and chromosome disjunction. Recently the SCs structure has been actively studied using immunohistochemical technique. However, it is
still unknown whether nuclear skeleton in premeiotic interphase basically corresponds with SCs in meiotic prophase in spite of the resemblance of the shapes in these two structures. Therefore, I studied the meiotic prophase nucleus in rat testis after hypotonic treatment under the electron microscopy. Moreover, the male rat was infused continuously with a low dose bromodeoxyuridine (BrdU) from the tail vein, following a modified Counce-Meyer's microspreading procedure and immunogold labeling was performed in this study. The
results were as following : (1) The SCs are composed of at least two different electron dense granules and chromatin fibers. These granules and fibers form a radial loop in lateral or central elements as hitherto assumed. (2) The replication patterns of autosomal chromatin were similar to those of sex chromatin. (3) Chromosome replications had a time lag between cross of SCs part and near the SCs part, indicating that SCs and nuclear skeleton is different structure organelle. These results suggest that continuous infusion of low dose BrdU is
useful for DNA replication study.

EFFECTS OF ADMINISTRATION OF CYCLOPHOSPHAMIDE AND ANTI-THYMOCYTE-GLOBULIN ON SERUM LEVELS OF COMPLEMENTS C1q AND C3 IN MICE

タイトル: EFFECTS OF ADMINISTRATION OF CYCLOPHOSPHAMIDE AND ANTI-THYMOCYTE-GLOBULIN ON SERUM LEVELS OF COMPLEMENTS C1q AND C3 IN MICE
著者: Sasaki, Takao　; Yamada, Hideki; Yonemasu, Kunio; Kashiba, Shuzo
抄録: Serum levels of the initiating complement component (C1q) in the classical pathway and those of an essential triggering component (C3) in the alternative pathway were quantified immunochemically in parallel with those of the immunonoglobulin G (IgG) in BALB/c mice, each of which was given a single dose of cyclophosphamide (CY) and/or rabbit anti-mouse-thymocyte-globulin (anti-TG) intraperitoneally. In the CY-treated mice, both C1q and IgG levels were significantly suppressed from 2 through 14 days after the treatment ; such suppression was more conspicuous in male than in female mice. In contrast, C3 levels were markedly increased in these mice of both sexes from 2 through 7 days after the same treatment. In anti-TG-treated mice of both sexes, only C1q levels were significantly suppressed from 2 through 10 days after the treatment ; however, neither their C3 nor IgG levels were much influenced. Both T and B lymphocytes in peripheral blood of these mice were significantly diminished : CY affected more severely B cells ; in contrast,
anti-TG had a more severe influence on T cells. These results suggest that there may be some metabolic and/or developmental interrelationships among serum C1q levels, functions of immune lymphocytes, and their producing immunoglobulins and/or lymphokines.
